Papua New Guinea: TotalEnergies launches integrated engineering studies for the Papua LNG project Paris, March 7, 2023 –TotalEnergies, operator of the project, announces the launch of the fully integrated Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) for the Papua LNG project.
ExxonMobil has reliably supplied Papua New Guinea with quality fuels for more than a century. And for more than a decade, we have also been operator of the PNG LNG Project, the largest investment in the nation’s history – and the first in LNG – on behalf of our co-venturers including the State of Papua New Guinea and PNG LNG Project
"How Papua New Guinea Became an Oil Producer, then an LNG
Papua New Guinea can still be successful in producing oil and gas well into the future, but it has to learn that it takes more than oil and gas reserves to create a viable and sustainable production industry.
In Papua New Guinea we have been producing crude in the mountain area. We have participated in PNG LNG project, the first LNG project in Papua New Guinea since its planning stage, and commenced LNG shipping in May 2014. The LNG production capacity is 8.3 million tons per annum. We also participated in Papua LNG project, the second LNG project in Papua New Guinea from July 2023.
TotalEnergies pushes back Papua LNG FID to 2025
The project calls for the design of about 4 million tonnes per year of liquefaction capacity adjacent to the existing PNG LNG processing facilities, operated by ExxonMobil and located 20 kilometers northwest of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, The facility will receives supplies from the Elk-Antelope gas field.
(WO) – Santos announced the Papua LNG joint venture has launched fully-integrated front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the Papua LNG project in Papua New Guinea.
Papua LNG Project TotalEnergies Update for 2024, 2025
Papua LNG Project led by TotalEnergies (40.1%) with ExxonMobil (37.1%) and Santos (22.8%) aims to develop Papua New Guinea’s gas reserves (over 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent). Early works are on track for 2024. Final Investment Decision (FID) is targeted for 2025, with a potential production start-up in 2026. The project holds economic benefits for PNG and aims to serve Asian energy

The State of Papua New Guinea may exercise a back-in right of up to 22.5% interest at the Final Investment Decision planned by end 2023-early 2024. Production start-up is scheduled four years later. “The integrated FEED entry is a significant step in the development of the Papua LNG project.
